Ruowei Chen grew up in a family of artists, nurtured in the learning environment of Chinese traditional brush painting and calligraphy. He developed great interest in painting and the beauty of nature since he was a young child. With his continuous practice over the last few decades, he especially enjoys painting animals, water villages, mountains, rivers, and the beauty of the seasons. 

To improve his painting skills, he also learned from other great artists and has studied the paintings from the historical dynasties of China. More recently, he has been influenced by western culture which has blended into his artwork.

"My goal is to develop an artistic conception between realism and abstraction, and to subtly integrate the beauty of nature into life. I like to observe the phenomena of the unpredictable change of nature and the contrast between the familiar and the bizarre. 

"I am inspired to create so I can seize the moment of the real beauty of nature and life under the vail of a poetic imaginary scene in my mind. I like to use black and white, darkness and brightness, the combination of different materials under the effect of water, to better portray the images from my memory and imagination."
